Historic cocktail bar in Llandudno

The Cocktail Bar "The Palladium - JD Wetherspoon" in Llandudno, Wales, is a remarkable example of the repurposing of a historic building by the well-known British pub chain JD Wetherspoon. Originally built in 1920 as the Palladium Theatre, the building replaced the town's first marketplace and was designed in the Baroque style by architect Arthur Hewitt. It initially served as a multifunctional entertainment venue with 1,500 seats, including two balconies, offering a mix of cinema, theater, musical performances, operas, and even circus shows. After a varied history – in the 1970s, it was divided into a bingo hall and cinema complex – the building was taken over by Wetherspoon in 2001, carefully restored, and converted into a pub. Today, it is a Grade II listed building that has preserved many of its original architectural features.

Palladium pub with great atmosphere

The Palladium boasts an impressive interior. The high ceilings, preserved balconies, and historic proscenium – the stage frame – give the space a unique atmosphere reminiscent of its theater days. A recent restoration, costing approximately one million pounds, focused on the intricate plaster ceiling, which now shines in its original heritage colors. These works, carried out over 15 months, included cleaning the ceiling space, strengthening the wooden structure, and repairing decorative elements by specialized craftsmen. The result is a stunning interior that is often referred to as one of the most spectacular Wetherspoon locations in the UK.

Wetherspoon cocktails with fresh ingredients

The drink offerings at the Palladium are typical of the Wetherspoon chain, but with a strong focus on diversity and quality. The cocktail menu offers a selection of popular classics like Mojito or Margarita, prepared with fresh ingredients and high-quality spirits. The range is complemented by seasonal specials that promise variety. The wide selection of real ales and craft beers, including local and international varieties such as the Italian premium lager Poretti, known for its full-bodied flavor, is particularly appreciated. Wine lovers will find a broad range of options served by the glass or bottle, while non-alcoholic beverage enthusiasts can enjoy freshly ground Lavazza coffee or a selection of teas.

Culinary delights are also plentiful at the Palladium. The menu includes classic British pub dishes served throughout the day. Highlights include the crispy fish and chips, with the fish coming in a golden brown batter, as well as hearty meat pies served with a rich gravy. For a sweet finish, desserts like apple crumble or pudding are popular, capturing the traditional taste of Britain. The breakfast offering, available until noon, ranges from a full English breakfast with sausages and bacon to lighter options like fresh salads that also cater to vegetarian guests. The portions are generous, and the food is often praised for its good value for money.

Enjoy delicious British pub food

The atmosphere at the Palladium is versatile: during the day, it invites guests to relax with its laid-back, family-friendly vibe, while in the evening it gains energy with bustling pub ambiance and occasional sports broadcasts on multiple screens. The service is regularly highlighted for its speed and friendliness, with the staff working efficiently even during busy times. The bar has two large entrances for easy access and offers ample seating, including accessible areas, making it accessible to all visitors. For families, there is a special children's menu catering to the needs of younger guests.

Fast table delivery. But too dark in the main area, WiFi also slow. If prefer more light sit in the small rooms at main entrance. Otherwise a beautiful atmospheric pub

A big Weatherspoons. A bit noisy due to the large open spaces inside.
